Getting jewelry repaired
What to Do if a Mevisto Jewelry Piece Breaks?
Jewelry pieces are lifelong companions—and with a bit of care, they can often last for generations. Still, it can occasionally happen that a ring or necklace gets damaged. In such cases, quick action is needed. That's why we dedicate a blog post to this topic and answer important questions about jewelry repair at Mevisto.
10 Frequently Asked Questions About Jewelry Repair at Mevisto
The good news first: a Mevisto jewelry piece almost never breaks. We prioritize quality and durability. What we mostly deal with are signs of wear and tear. For example, pendants can become thinner over time where the chain rubs, and eventually wear through. Similarly, skin acts like natural sandpaper, causing rings to become slightly thinner over the years. But what about various repairs, and how do I best contact Mevisto if I want to have my jewelry repaired? We have gathered the most frequently asked questions and their answers on this topic:
1. My jewelry piece shows signs of wear and tear—can I have it repaired?
If it is a matter of general wear and tear, you can take the jewelry piece to any goldsmith for repair. However, if the issue is one of the problems described below, please feel free to contact us.
2. My gemstone has fallen out of the jewelry setting—what can I do?
It is rare, but it can happen that a gemstone falls out of its setting. If the gemstone is undamaged after hitting the ground, we can reset it. If the gemstone is lost, we understand this can be emotionally difficult. Therefore, we offer the option of securing and storing additional elements when the gemstone is made. This way, a new stone can be quickly created if needed. This service of securing the elements is free of charge.
3. The silver of my "Pearl with Soul" has tarnished—can it be cleaned?
Our "Pearl with Soul" is a ceramic pearl set in a silver jewelry piece. Silver, even when gold-plated, can tarnish over time. Silver, although a precious metal, oxidizes with oxygen and other oxidizing agents in conjunction with hydrogen sulfide, forming silver sulfide. Both gases are present in our atmosphere, making the tarnishing of silver jewelry practically unavoidable. However, the "Pearl with Soul" can be carefully cleaned or professionally cleaned.
4. The setting of my pearl has come loose—can the jewelry piece be repaired?
In rare cases, the setting can come loose from the pearl. But don't worry, we can repair this as well.
5. The pearl has broken—is it possible to replace it?
We can also answer this question with "Yes." If a pearl breaks, we can extract the elements from the broken pearl and incorporate them into a new one, which will still carry the essence of the respective loved one or pet.
6. I lost my "Pearl with Soul"—can I have a new one made with the same elements?
As a general rule: prevention is better than cure. Anyone having a "Pearl with Soul" made should keep a small amount of hair or a pinch of ash to be able to produce another pearl if needed.
7. How do I best contact Mevisto if I need a repair?
The best way is to contact us personally by phone or email. When a Mevisto jewelry piece needs repair, an initial analysis is always required to determine the damage and the necessary measures.
8. Is the repair carried out directly at Mevisto or at partner companies?
Repairs of jewelry pieces with pearls are handled in-house. However, if gold work is required for a setting, we involve our jewelers.
9. How long does a repair usually take?
This cannot be answered universally and depends on whether a new gemstone needs to be made, a completely new setting needs to be created, or if it is just a small soldering job. Depending on the workload, repairs at Mevisto can take different amounts of time. We will, of course, discuss this in advance.
10. Is there a warranty on certain parts?
As long as it is not a matter of classic wear and tear, we will do our best to repair the jewelry piece.
Mindfulness and Care are Essential
As already mentioned, mindfulness and proper care play a significant role in preventing major repairs. Therefore, you should always take good care of your Mevisto jewelry piece and have it regularly checked by a jeweler—especially the clasps.
For real gold, we also recommend taking off chains overnight. Additionally, strong forces such as pulls or impacts should be avoided. If a jewelry piece does break and you want to have it repaired, please feel free to contact us. We will advise you and find a solution together.
