Engagement ring and wedding jewelry with soul: The touching story of Kathi and Lukas
Sometimes life brings two people together in a surprising way. Just like Kathi and Lukas, whose love story did not begin with a romantic date, but with an assignment at the Red Cross. It was January 3, 2016 that would change their lives forever. They were called to a mission where they had to resuscitate a patient and were able to save his life. The rest is history - and one of a deep bond that bridges life and death.
The beginning of a great love
“That was the starting point,” says Lukas. “Then we did more and more services together, and that's how it developed.” But it wasn't just the joint services that brought the two closer together. It was also the experiences they shared. And which ultimately led to the two of them deciding after a few months to pursue their life together.
“It was actually always very important to me that Lukas asked his dad if he could marry me,” Kathi explains in the interview. But how can the future groom ask for permission when his beloved dad is no longer around?
Lukas found a solution that couldn't have been more symbolic: He asked Kathi's mother for some of her late father's ashes to have a personalized gemstone made from them. The engagement ring that ultimately resulted is therefore not only a sign of his love for Kathi. It is also a very special, symbolic memento of her father that carries his essence within it.

Wedding abroad: A new beginning with old memories
Kathi and Lukas' wedding was just as special as their whole story. Like many girls, Kathi dreamed of a wedding in white, in a beautifully decorated church, with her father walking her down the aisle. However, as she knew that this dream would not come true for her, Lukas and she decided on something completely different.
“And then we said, okay, we'll get married abroad in Mauritius. And that's where we got married. With a few complications, no wedding dress, no suit. But the rings were in our hand luggage.” And a very special wedding present. “Mom asked me what we wanted. And then I said I wanted a bracelet.” A bracelet that unites everyone who means a lot to Kathi: Lukas, her mom, her dad and her two dogs. “And her mom really organized it”.
Something old, something new, something blue
It's an old wedding tradition: the bride should carry something old, something new and something blue with her on the big day. The old symbolizes the life the bride led before her marriage. The new symbolizes the start of a new life. And blue has always been the color of loyalty and constancy. The bracelet that Kathi received as a wedding gift from her mother combines all of this in just one piece of jewelry.
The bracelet is new and was made especially for her. It contains something old - the essence of her deceased father - and the stone that adorns it is a blue sapphire.

The bracelet as a sign of solidarity
But Kathi didn't just wear the bracelet for her wedding. It is also an important companion in her life beyond that: “I really like having the bracelet on top. Because it always connects me to everyone. Even if I don't have all the people and animals around me at the moment,” she says.
Kathi chose the bracelet because her mother always had a charm bracelet when she was a child. So the plan is clear: the bracelet is to be extended with more stones later. Kathi would like to have an individual stone from each person that is incorporated into the first stone. Stones from the grandparents are also to follow at some point. The bracelet should unite the whole family.
Speaking of family: when asked what family means to the two of them, Lukas replies: “Family is actually the people where you feel at home. Where you feel comfortable. Where you can be honest with each other and don't have to pretend. That's family.” For their future, the couple hope to do the same as their parents: they want to have just as happy a marriage, always be there for each other, enjoy life together and stick together through thick and thin.
And we wish them all the happiness in the world.
